informational text

It seems that we are being guided to use a great deal more informational text - 50/50 in lower elementary, much more beyond those grades.  How does Making Meaning meet this need for the regular classroom?

Thank you for your question.

Recognizing the importance of having more nonfiction throughout the grades, we increased the number of nonfiction texts at every grade level in the 2nd edition of Making Meaning.

Currently, the numbers of nonfiction titles in Making Meaning are as follows:

K   40%

1    40%

2    44%

3    48%

4    54%

5    55%

6    58%

Additionally we have IDR libraries that support students in reading increasingly complex text on their own. These libraries are available in a range of levels and are balanced equally between non-fiction and fiction.
