Virtual Summer Institute (SOLD OUT)

Together let’s prepare to rebuild our school communities, reconnect with students and colleagues, and accelerate learning for at-risk students.

Pre-coronavirus, the Collaborative Classroom National Summer Institute was scheduled for June 23–25, 2020 at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

In response to the pandemic, this event is now transitioning to a live, virtual format – with new content designed to support Collaborative Literacy educators as we navigate the crisis.

The reimagined Collaborative Classroom Virtual Summer Institute will be a two-day Zoom conference on June 23–24, 2020

Collaborative Literacy educators, we hope you’ll join us.

About the Event

This virtual institute is for educators who use one or more Collaborative Literacy programs (Being a Reader, Being a Writer, Making Meaning, and/or SIPPS). Teachers, coaches, administrators, and other literacy leaders are welcome.

As originally planned, we will offer professional learning sessions to deepen your understanding of Collaborative Literacy’s research-based, intentional design and how it promotes engagement, equity, and independence for every child.

In addition, we will provide sessions that address the current crisis:

  • Rebuilding our school and classroom communities at the start of the year
  • Using Collaborative Literacy to help address the anticipated “COVID slide”
  • Maintaining our focus on equity throughout the rebuilding process
  • Accelerating learning for students who are most at risk

This live, virtual event will feature keynotes, networking opportunities, and breakout sessions. Each breakout session will be repeated at least twice throughout the event, so that you can attend the session times that best fit your schedule.

Please note that breakout sessions will be live, highly interactive, and hands-on; they will not be recorded.

To ensure the quality of our learning, each session will be limited to 40 participants.  Registrants will be able to sign up in advance for their preferred session times.

Dates and Times
Tuesday and Wednesday,  June 23–24, 2020
We will begin at 9:00 AM Central Time each day.

Platform and Materials
The virtual conference will be held via Zoom. To fully engage in the learning – which will be hands-on and highly interactive – please have a laptop with video and audio enabled.

You will need your Collaborative Literacy program materials.

$49 per person registration fee.

If you are already registered for the original, in-person National Summer Institute, there is no need to register again; please keep reading for details about fee adjustments.

Group Registrations
School & District Leaders: if your district plans to register any group of 20 or more, please contact Linda Rourke at lrourke@collaborativeclassroom.org. We will assist you with your registration.

Certificate of Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be available to all registrants who attend the virtual conference.

Optional Graduate Credit
Conference co-sponsor Hamline University is offering one graduate credit for an additional $75, payable directly to the university.

To apply for the optional graduate credit, first please register for the institute. The Hamline Credit Form will be sent to you in your Registration Confirmation email.

Fee Adjustments
If you already registered for the original, in-person National Summer Institute and wish to remain registered for the now-virtual event, we will adjust your registration fee as follows:

If you were registered for the General Session:  The original in-person General Session on June 23–24 was $139/person.

  • If you/your district have already paid upfront, we will refund the difference of $90 via the original method of payment.
  • If you/your district asked to be invoiced later, no action is needed. We will adjust your invoice to reflect the new, lower fee of $49/person.

If you were registered for the Leadership Day:  The original in-person Leadership Day on June 25 was $49/person. (This day is now cancelled.)

  • Leaders who paid in advance for June 25, we have refunded your Leadership Day fee via the original payment method.
  • If you would like to attend June 23–24 and did not previously register for those days, please register yourself now.

To Cancel Your Registration
If you wish to cancel your registration and receive a refund, please email us at events@collaborativeclassroom.org. Please include your name, your school and district, and the email address that was used when you originally registered.
