This statement governs information you provide to us or that we learn from your use of the CCC Site and tells you how we may collect, use, and in some instances share this information.
If you request a catalog or purchase materials from us via the CCC Site, you may receive our annual catalog. If you prefer not to receive our catalog or other mailings, please let us know.
What Information Do We Collect?
When you visit the CCC Site you may provide us with two types of information: personal information you knowingly choose to disclose that is collected on an individual basis, and automatically collected information collected on an aggregate basis as you and others browse the CCC Site.
1. Personal Information You Choose to Provide
You may provide to us what is generally called “personally identifiable” information when you register, such as your name, postal mailing address, e-mail address, home/business/mobile telephone number, credit card number, and billing information. In addition, we may give you the option to provide us with certain demographic information about yourself.
2. Automatically Collected Information
Similar to other commercial Web sites, the CCC Site utilizes a standard technology called ‘cookies’ and Web server logs to collect information about how the CCC Site is used. Information gathered through cookies and Web server logs may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, time spent at the CCC Site, and the Web sites visited just before and just after the CCC Site. This information is generally collected on an aggregate basis, but we may connect your Web use information to your personal information.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are a feature of Web browser software that allows Web servers to recognize the computer that is used to access a Web site. Cookies are small pieces of data that are stored by a user’s Web browser on the user’s hard drive. Cookies can remember what information a user accesses on one Web page to simplify subsequent interactions with that Web site by the same user or to use the information to streamline the user’s transactions on related Web pages. This makes it easier for a user to move from Web page to Web page and to complete commercial transactions over the Internet. We use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the CCC Site.
How Do We Use the Information That You Provide to Us?
Broadly speaking, we use personal information for purposes of administering our business activities, fulfilling orders for products, providing customer service and making available other products and services to our customers and prospective customers. Occasionally, we may also use the information we collect to notify you about important changes to the CCC Site, new services and special offers we think you will find valuable. The lists used to send you product and service offers are developed and managed under our traditional standards designed to safeguard the security and privacy of our customers’ personal information. You may at any time notify us of your desire not to receive these offers by e-mailing us at email@example.com or calling us at 1-800-666-7270 x281.
How Do We Use Automatically Collected Information?
We use Web site browser software tools such as cookies and Web server logs to gather information about our Users’ browsing activities, in order to constantly improve the CCC Site and our products and better serve our customers.
Cookies help us collect important business and technical statistics. The information in the cookies lets us trace the paths followed by users to the CCC Site as they move from one page to another. Web server logs allow us to count how many people visit the CCC Site and evaluate the CCC Site’s visitor capacity.
When do we Disclose Your Information?
We may disclose both personally identifiable and automatically collected information to affiliated companies or other businesses or persons to process such information on our behalf, to provide website maintenance and security, to offer certain features on the CCC Site, to assist us in improving the way the CCC Site works and looks, and to create new features.
We may share automatically collected and other aggregate non-personally-identifiable information with interested third parties to assist them in understanding the usage patterns for certain content, services, advertisements, promotions, and/or functionality on the CCC Site.
We do not share personally identifiable information with other third-party organizations for their marketing or promotional use without your consent or except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, if we should ever file for bankruptcy or have our assets sold to or merge with another entity, information we receive from you through the CCC Site is our asset and may be transferred.
How Do We Secure Information Transmissions?
No data transmissions over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. When you send confidential personal credit card information to us in the bookstore section of the CCC Site, secure server software, which we have licensed, encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. The information is scrambled en route and decoded once it reaches the CCC Site.
Other information that you may send to us may not be secure unless we advise you that security measures will be in place prior to your transmitting the information. For that reason, we ask that you do not send confidential information such as your social security or account numbers to us through an unsecured channel such as e-mail.
