Series 2: Launching Collaborative Literacy: The Essentials for a Strong Grades 3–6 Implementation

This four-part series of professional learning workshops focuses on the essentials to launch a strong Collaborative Literacy implementation in grades 3–6. We will feature the pedagogy and design of the instruction in Making Meaning and Being a Writer. In each workshop session, we will focus on an aspect of instruction and consider the essentials of that aspect including unit design, lesson structure, planning, and professional learning support. Participants will complete the series ready to begin teaching Collaborative Literacy lessons.

Session One: Introducing Collaborative Literacy 3–6
Participants will understand the design of Collaborative Literacy, learn about the integration of social and academic instruction, and explore the embedded professional learning supports.Session Two: Understanding Making Meaning, Individualized Daily Reading (IDR),  and Making Meaning Vocabulary
Participants will examine the pedagogy and instructional design of Making Meaning and explore the build of instruction across a unit and understand how students apply what they are learning during IDR. They will understand how students build strong oral and written vocabulary as they engage in the instruction.Session Three: Understanding Being a Writer
Participants will understand the instructional design of Being a Writer, the consistent lesson structure, how skills are incorporated into the instruction, and how to prepare students for a Writing Task Assessment.Session Four: Preparing to Implement Collaborative Literacy
Participants will examine the power and intention of the early instruction, begin planning, and explore the coordinating elements across the programs.

Who Should Register: Register for this series if you are a 3–6 teacher, coach, leader, or other educator who is preparing to launch or re-invigorate your Collaborative Literacy implementation. Teams are recommended.

Fee: $99 per person. (Payment via credit card only, please)

This series is designed to provide live, interactive, and hands-on experiences; it will not be recorded.  

Please be prepared to engage in pre-work, have program materials in hand, and actively use the Zoom Meeting platform for learning, collaboration, and collegial conversations. 

Space is limited to ensure the quality of our virtual professional learning. Each track accommodates a maximum of 100 registrants, who will be grouped into two cohorts of 50 participants.

Two days prior to the first session in the series, you will receive a notification indicating your 50-person cohort. Cohorts will engage in the learning across all sessions. Collaborative Classroom will make every effort to group cohorts by district.
