Overview

Scope and Sequence
SIPPS® Plus and Challenge work together to support older readers in grades 4–12 who have lingering gaps in foundational skills or an underdeveloped ability to decode and understand polysyllabic words.
- SIPPS Plus provides age-appropriate foundational skills intervention for students in grades 4–12 who are reading at a first- or second-grade level. It addresses the simple alphabetic and spelling-pattern phases of foundational skills
- SIPPS Challenge Level addresses the polysyllabic/morphemic phase of decoding. Differentiated word lists make it easy to adapt each lesson for readers in elementary, middle, or high school.

Placement Assessment
Taking just 3–8 minutes to administer, the Placement Assessment makes grouping decisions simple by capturing
the data to gauge each student’s point of instructional need precisely. Students will be placed in either SIPPS Plus or Challenge.
SIPPS Plus
SIPPS Plus includes Dreams on Wheels, an anthology of short, decodable texts designed to engage intermediate and higher-grade students with a variety of text types, particularly nonfiction.
The 70+ selections in Dreams on Wheels align with the SIPPS Plus scope and sequence, allowing students to apply their foundational reading skills to age-appropriate, high-interest texts intentionally crafted for striving older readers.
SIPPS Challenge
For students who have mastered the spelling-pattern phase, Challenge Level focuses on syllabic patterns, including open and closed syllables and consonant/vowel patterns, and morphological units, including common prefixes, roots, and suffixes.
Differentiated word lists make it easy to adapt each lesson for readers in elementary, middle, or high school.
In addition, Challenge Level offers a Vocabulary Supplement, which contains 75 lessons in morphemic analysis to help students identify and use meaningful word parts to infer word meanings. Vocabulary Supplement lessons align with the sight syllables taught in Challenge Level and are designed to reinforce and extend learning.
