Being a Reader for Grade 1 is comprised of whole-class and small-group reading instruction. Whole-class instruction includes read-alouds and shared reading, vocabulary, independent work, handwriting, and social development, and it is designed to be used in coordination with Small-Group Reading Sets 3–8. SIPPS, All Levels, Scope and Sequence
SIPPS supports new and struggling readers in grades K–12. Each level corresponds to a specific stage of reading development: simple alphabetic, spelling pattern, and polysyllabic/morphemic.

SIPPS Plus addresses the simple alphabetic and spelling-pattern phases of foundational skills instruction and is uniquely designed for intervention instruction for students in grades 4–12. Upon completion of Plus, students should move into SIPPS Challenge.
