Michigan Readers Succeed with Collaborative Literacy

Tier 1 Early Literacy Program Eligible for Section 35m Funding

The Michigan Department of Education’s Committee for Literacy Achievement (CLA) critically evaluated and ranked Tier 1 Early Literacy Curriculum Materials. Collaborative Literacy, comprised of Being a Reader and Being a Writer, successfully met the criteria set forth by CLA and is eligible for Section 35m funding. This funding is part of the MI FY 2025 State School Aid and supports the Department’s goal of increasing student academic outcomes in the area of literacy.

Collaborative Literacy

Comprised of two dynamic programs—Being a Reader and Being a Writer.

While each program can be taught on its own, when used together, a deep connection between reading and writing is formed.

Michigan Educators Who Are Already Making an Impact

It feels good knowing that I am covering all of the standards for kindergarten that we have in this program and I do not see gaps in the material or learning. It also leaves room to differentiate instruction depending on the individual levels of my students.
