SEEDS of Learning Professional Learning Framework Sample Kit

The Literacy-Rich Schedule supports educators in intentionally adding the SEEDS strategies to their existing schedule. The schedule should be followed each day so the adults and children know what’s coming next and so educators can be sure all language and literacy content is covered.

In addition to what we teach, it’s also important to reflect on how we teach. The questions in this tool will help you reflect on how your instruction aligns to the SEEDS Qualities.

VIEW REFLECTION TOOL

Phonological awareness, and in particular phonemic awareness, is one of the strongest predictors of early reading outcomes. In this sample, we’ve compiled the Phonological Awareness Content Guide and the Initial Phoneme Lesson Frame, Reflection Tool, and Planning Tool.

We recommend interacting with this sample in the following sequence:

1. Study the Content Guide.
2. Use the accompanying lesson frame to teach the targeted skill(s).
3. Use the Reflection Tool to reflect on the components implemented and think about steps for improvement for future lessons.
4. Use the Planning tool, along with the SEEDS Qualities Reflection tool, to determine what level of support to provide and plan scaffolds to help each child move from emergent to developing to fluent.
   
   Note: At times this process may not be so linear. Lean into your own learning process and adjust accordingly.
